Update from Kate Drzycimski:

Will was on the zoom call today! So we got to hear some updates straight from him, and I will summarize on his behalf to relieve him from Update Duty for today. 😊 He can correct me/fill in blanks if needed.

Things to keep in prayer...

Ruth has to undergo a minor surgery tomorrow to put in a catheter in her arm in order to better facilitate blood draws, etc. since the umbilical site they have been using will close up.

Heart valve issues: it isn’t resolving itself like they would like, so they are increasing the meds from just Tylenol to also Advil as well.

Incubator swap: foregoing it for now in order to save her some stress.

Staph and fungal infections: they have done another blood draw to confirm whether or not staph is present, so prayer would be appreciated that it comes back negative, indicating that it was either never there or the antibiotics they have been giving her have be working. Confirmation on the fungal infection won’t be known for a few weeks, and by that time, the anti fungal meds will hopefully have taken care of whatever was there anyway.

Her little eyes are open in the picture as Will was swabbing her mouth with breastmilk on q-tip. It’s not for feeding her at the moment (still too many meds, etc.), but they call it “oral care” and helps with the inside of her mouth as well as a general will to live. :-) The nurses assure Will and Hannah all the time that it is evident that Ruth knows when it is W/H that are in the room.

Ruth gave her night watch a scare last night—her ventilator line had slipped out of her trachea and by all the indications she was about to die. They did a good job and got her fixed quickly, but it’s a reminder that Ruth’s life is held in God’s hands every minute of the day.

Keep her in your prayers tomorrow as she will be undergoing a minor surgery to push an IV catheter up her elbow all the way to her heart. This is to replace her umbilical IV lines which will be less effective soon. There are risks associated with this procedure, but long term it will be less invasive for her. She will also begin stronger medications in an attempt to close a special heart valve (design feature for in utero, but needs closed if baby’s outside).

We are extremely grateful for your prayers.
